Can you explain how does Nasdaq mini or S&P futures differ from stock. My understanding is that technicals are same behind any asset class.
If you could share your charts and explain your strategy, it will be a great help to all of us.
>> ... I would definitely say ..stay away from day trading !!!
Depends on lot of factors. I have been trading for last 10 years. I don't trade stocks. I trade index futures sp500 and Nasdaq mini. It is short term - couple of hours to maximum couple of days. Day Trading requires good analytical skills for technical charts and lot of discipline to follow enter and exit rules.
Taxes are computed differently for futures trading. You will need this IRS form (6781 Gains and Losses From Section 1256 Contracts and Straddles) to file your taxes for trading futures.
>> ... STAY AWAY from all day trading software !!!
I agree. They are mostly snake oil. I suggest - do some reading and follow some indicators and come up with Trading Strategy. It is recommended to do paper trading before starting trading with real money.
>> ... if you cannot take losses (or are happy with normal returns) ...stay away from stocks (except for a small portfolio/ 401 etc) completely
Trading, of course, involves risks. I pick funds for my 401(k). So far it has been good. I was up last year 4.2%. Never had any losing year in 401(k).
There are many tools for technical charting. I use Ninja Trader since it allow to me define new indicators using c# (.net) language.
If anyone is interested, I put my daily charts here. Sorry, I can not disclose my indicators and I don't have anything to sell either.
I can share some trading books, if you are interested.
Disclaimer: Information use only and should not be constructed as an offer to buy or sell any securities. Trading is very risky and is not for everyone.

I dont buy the argument that only India and China produce the brightest people who are willing to work here in U.S. There are just as many people from Europe and the rest of the world who are just as qualified and who would want to work in the U.S. The problem starts with the H1-B visas, where most of them are taken by these Indian IT consulting companies. Correct me if Im wrong, but I dont think these IT companies hire non-Indian workers. There are many qualified people from the rest of the world who are willing to work here in U.S, but cant because the majority of the H1-B visas is going to Indians and Chinese nationals. Perhaps, there should be a per-country quota at the H1-B level. I dont think there is anything wrong with the current country quota; if some countries dont use their quotas then these quotas roll into the countries that have higher demand.
I second that. As long as there is widespread abuse -- large numbers of Indian body-shops and consulting companies that import people by the thousands -- and as long as that skews the numbers, there should also be checks and balances -- per-country limits. Per-country limits and diversity argument are a good way to restore the balance and offset for the abuse.
I'm really tired of hearing people saying that diversity is for FB or for DV visa. What make FB immigration a better candidate for diversity?!? Absolutely nothing. The law provides for diversity in ALL immigration categories -- EB, FB, DV, etc., and there is nothing discriminatory about it. The discrimination comes from companies that abuse the system, import thousands of consulting workers with 3-year degrees who don't really have jobs but sit on the bench for 8-10 months at a time (something that's explicitly disallowed by H-1B law), and then apply for I-140/I-485 going through an unending sequence of RFE's, NOIDs, MTR's, etc. and slowing the system to a crawl. Now these people want the whole world to suffer with them by "distributing" the pain. Why?
If somebody takes care of this abuse, the remaining really qualified Indian/Chinese workers who really deserve to be here will find that they won't need a separate category because there won't be any severe backlogs for their countries.

If you read my any previous posts and to repeat, there will be no issue to contribute from me or most of us here. We need an action item. Anyone with minimum common knowledge here sees there is no change in dates for the last 6 months, or even last few years. You seem to be a strong supporter of contributions, can you list one action item which we planned to take up in the last or in near future that addresses our concerns of backlogs. Now dont come back and tell me or send me a picture of July 07 campaign or your 12th grade or 10th grade marksheet. We need to be doing things of our interest EVERY single day. I do my job very good.. I know.. but I have to keep doing it everyday if I have to keep it. Similarly unless you put continuous efforts, you wont get continuous results.
If you want a reply to your post from me again, come back with an action item that you see as planned.
I agree with you.

i thought same as u in that apprval has to be by 31 july, however my lawyer says i can file if approved 1 to 16 aug. confusing as heck
It's debatable...the announcement from USCIS says anyone whose priority date is current as of July 2007...One way of interpreting is anyone who filed as of July 31, your priority date is current as of July 2007. But in order to file concurrent 140 and 485, you have to have your labor approved. This is why people who are stuck at BEC's cannot file since they don't have their approval yet even though they filed long back. This is just my 2 cents. You can find lawyers who agree on this and disagree, it's one of the gray areas....I'm in the same situation, waiting for my PERM from Atlanta..filed in Feb. If I get my approval before Aug 17th, I plan to file.

Now that I have talked about so many people....let me tell you what I did to freak out Aman.....
Sunday afternoon, Aman asked me to take out about 5,000 printouts of our documents and put them in 120 folders for the meetings on Monday. I started doing it but the printer was painfully slow. After a while, I figured it will take me hours to do it and I was getting restless because I go to gym daily and I had not worked- out that day. I decided to run upstairs to the fitness centre and get done with it.
I came back in about 1.5 hrs., and there was a big chaos - so many printouts flying around!! Aman looked tensed. Anyways, I worked 5 hrs straight and with the help of great volunteers there I was able to get all those 120 folders ready for the monday morning.
So much so for my Obsessive Compulsive Behaviour! Needless to say, I didnot work-out the other 2 days....didn't want people to know I am crazy :)

Let us start from the basics. I see there is much interest but there are different types of investors/interests here. I will knock off one at a time.
There are many types of traders, I will write about different trading strategies including factors and key concepts in a series of short posts. I dont want to post everything in one single post as it makes for a very lengthy read and I dont have time. You can ask me questions on each post and I can answer them.
Disclaimer- I am not recommending any strategy but only educating. Risk management is key to avoid burn out.
Day Traders- They trade intraday and capitalize very short term patterns in stock movement. They are not invertors but gamblers, but semi scientific gamblers (If you can call them that).
Technical analysis is the key to day trading. Technical analysis states that stocks follow patterns which could be identified and future movement could be predicted. This future movement is only valid for a short period of time. When a pattern forms and is identified, the future movement is called a break out. Some key technical analysis methods are supports, resistances, trading channels, triangles, pendants, diamonds, wedge, head and shoulders, island bottoms, etc etc.. There are also oscillators which are based on mathematical formulas that incorporate historical or recent prices of the stock like Bollinger bands, fast/slow stochastic, KST, Moving average convergence-divergence (MACD), momentum, Relative strength Index (RSI) and Williams %R etc, etc..
There techniques have been studied to death and have become self fulfilling prophecies. People see a trend and put on bets that the stock will behave in a particular manner and by the weight of these trades the stock does exactly as predicted. Usually day traders specialize in 1 or 2 stocks and no more than 4-5. They study and understand how the stock behaves and utilize these short term trends. You need to go long when you see a trend forming and go short when you see the trend maxing out to catch break outs in either direction. Since you are capitalizing on small price differentials you need to use leverage to make meaningful profits. This makes trading risky. You need to have entry and exit points and trade with discipline. Use algorithmic trading platforms to take out emotions from the trade. Always have a stop out.
Good reads- Come in to trading room, Equity trader course, Technical analysis of financial markets-by Murphy and many more.

i'm all for this. This is very close to my heart. I probably care more about this than i do, my 485 approval.(can't have one without the other, i know i know. But still.).
I don't know when i'll get my 485 approved, hopefully within the next year. But i'm willing to work on this, whatever it takes - contributions, lawmaker meetings, dc.
I'm in.
This has got to be simple too. When the citizenship law was first drafted, immigrants got their green cards within months of entering the country. Start to end of the greencard process took under a year, if not less.
The intention of the law was to have them learn the language, the ways of the country, and assimilate, which was expected to take about 5 years, before applying for citizenship.
These days the green card process itself take over 5 years for a lot of people. Most indians and chinese in the eb2 category, and pretty much the entire eb3 category have lived here longer than 5 years. In those 5 years they have gone to school here, paid income taxes, bought homes, and learned the language (well they had to, in order to qualify for an employment based green card!). What more "assimilation" do they need to do?
I definitely think that the following should be the criteria for eligibility to apply for citizenship,
- an approved green card
- 5 years of continuous u.s. Residence starting from the date the 485 application was received.
Let's do this.

Great going IV!!!
I never called any elected official in the past. So I was little hesitant in the beginning. But it's so easy .. No hesitation now.. just give me the number and I will call them.

It's easy, and it's effective and strength is in numbers..

Arae mere pyaara bhaai,
I am completing 10 years in GC process in September 22, 2010.
How about that?
Before the first application gets to process, I left the company and joined another company. The GC which I am waiting for since then was filed by the second company. They filed it on EB3 eventhough I was eligible for EB2 for "easier processing". At that time both EB2 and EB3 were current. And it remained the same way till I got my labor approved the very same month it went into retrogression. Since then I am waiting.
By the way, my first company sold the labor they filed for me for $15K dollars to another guy. He got his GC in 2005 and just 2 months back he became an US Citizen.
That is a long story told short....
Aadarneeya Mahoday - Aapkee GC sheegr hi sampann hone ki meri shub kaamnayen. You have been tested to the limit by this system and I will hope and pray that you will get your GC soon. Good luck and keep us posted.

We EB3 folks are not requesting for EB2 visas. We all will be happy to get 50% EB1 spill over visas. The other 50% can go to Eb2s.
right now 100% of EB1 spill over is going to EB2.
Eb2 category gets 28.6% Visa number. Any spillover from EEB2 will only go the EB2. Why would USCIS change the rule and allocate the visa numbers from EB2 to Eb3. This does not make sense. I agree that spillover from Eb1 can go to both EB2 and EB3. There is no way this argument will fly that EB2 numbers be allocated to EB3. This is a statue and USCIS cannot deviate from that. They will face a lawsuit if they do so. USCIS is using the correct spillover procedue and I dont think they will change it. The only argument EB3 should make it that spillover from EB1 should go to both EB2 and EB3.
It is not individual qualifications that matter but it is the job requirement. So if you are in EB3 try to port it to EB2. Nothing else will matter.
