So my estimate is there are around
50 to 60k consulting companies in whole USA.
Thanks,
Kris
I don't think consulting firms are alone to be blamed.
Lets say there are around 1000 consulting firms it the worst case there may be around 1500 firms which have a capacity to apply 15 H1B each.
still the number would come around 15000 to 30000 but the big 4 companies in India got 20,000 H1B last year, which means they might have applied around 45000 to 55,000 applications
my numbers may be bit off but i think Big 4 companies from India are doing more damage then consulting firms in US.

You still didn't explain how "immigrant status verification is related to homeland security" logically.
door lock and security are related. How is "immigrant status" and "security" related ? Would you mind explaining it logically ?
Sure, why not. An immigrant who is not in valid status is one who is legally not allowed to be in the country. Therefore he is a security threat. If somebody who should not be allowed in your house were in your house, you would consider him to be a security threat, wouldn't you? Am I missing something here?

For all those people who haven't been willing to donate to IV until now, let this Immigraton Fee Rise serve as a wake up call.
Do you want to pay $60 to IV now, or pay 10X that amount in June (when filing fee will rise by almost $600 for 485 filing)??
I know some people didn't want to contribute to IV, but now the choice is clear: pay $60 to IV now for its efforts or pay $600 to USCIS in June (where there will be no choice left but to pay up).

I am kind of disappointed with the response to the idea of calling our respective University presidents knowing that there voice will be heard. All we need to do is convince the university presidents to speak for us?
That idea is good, but right now what matters is getting the support of the key identified CHC members esp. Sen Menendez. Please follow IV Core's action items and call these CHC members and your local congressman/woman in support of the 3 bills.

Divorce in India takes a minimum 1 year to adjudicate if you were married less than 1 year. Otherwise, it is up to the discretion of the judge. Courts in India require a 'cooling period', with 'counseling / mediation'. Latter is basically a a sham.
That said, as a trained mediator, and negotiator, I would say ... a win-win outcome is always better for all parties. What happens to be 'win-win' is of course subjective.
Good luck in whatever you do! Trust me, things always work out well in the end.

So that means the unused Visa number flow "downwords" within the country category NOT "accross" the EB category.
Yes. Now the question is, whether it is right or wrong as per the current law.

People do not like gloomy predictions. :)
Here is a positive prediction for a change. EB3 I may move a bit.;)
Pappu,
Did you or any one in IV get any chance to discuss with USCIS regarding quarterly spillover?

Does anyone know if its possible to just renew the green-card or one has to apply for naturalization after 5 years?
You can revnew your GC after an intial period of 10 years. You are at your free will and wish to remain on your GC. You will be eligible for Naturalization after 5 years. That does not mean that you have to use that oppurtunity.
Now to the original question of this thread.
It is highly recommended that one must stay with the original sponsoring company for atleast 6 months after the GC is approved. If you leave the company in good terms with them or rather if they do not create any fuss, then you are safe.
Say in my case, my original employer laid me off and I ported my process with AC21 to another company, where I am working for 3 yrs and just got my GC approved. I am not obligated to stay with this company as they are not my original sponsor. And again they cannot revoke my GC.
Having said that, the employers can create problems for you, if they decide to hunt you down. But that will not do them any good other than the 'revenge' they may enjoy on you.
My collegue was planning to leave his company after GC approval and his employer cancelled the GC process by withdrawing the application. The USCIS has informed him about this officially to him. He was panicked and was about to start another application and one fine morning, his GC approval came to him through snail mail.
What I am trying to say is there are laws, rules, processes and methods. Not everything will be applicable everytime or does not happen all the time. It truly depends on your luck too.
GOOD LUCK!!!

Non-immigrants are routinely charged a hefty premium on mortgages and loans just based on the fact that their stay in the US is limited in time - irrespective of what your credit score and other usual risk assessment metrics have to say.
could members explain this further with more information and facts if possible. we have not been covering this in our media interviews and facts about hardships we face.
infact it would be better if finance gurus and others on the forum can help list various ways in which h1b visa holders suffer financially by not having a gc.
- mortgage rates are one.

Hi Shamu,
A colleague/friend of mine and his wife decided to have a home delivery. So, they contacted this nurse practitioner/midwife, who used to come to his home once a month and do all the stuff that goes along with pregnancy. They also delivered the baby at his home, which took off all the expense that are associated with a hospital delivery and I'm pretty sure the entire cost for the 9 month term was <5K (actually around 2-3K).
But I believe that was possible because it was a normal delivery with no complications.
So, if you and your wife are in the same situation as most of the people here (i.e. late 20's or early to mid 30's ) there is no reason why you would not have a normal uncomplicated delivery. So having a home delivery is an option.
I am a father of a 15 month old and felt that most of the months that we went to visit the doctor was pretty superficial. They did not tell us anything which you cannot find out from the internet or the maternity books. Who delivered my daughter in the hospital? Well a nurse did.
Also in India my wife told me that most often women don't go to the doctor unless there are issues. (For the period leading up to the delivery. For delivery they go to the doctor.)
So, for uncomplicated deliveries a home delivery could be an option, just check it out and the nurse practitioners (OBGYN variety)/midwives are fully qualified and sometimes more experienced than the doctors as that is ALL they do, they deliver babies.
So check this option if you feel it is OK.
Good luck with your insurance search.
P.S.: Also you seem a little stressed out.
Buddy enjoy this time, you are going to be a father. :-)

We have been calling and talking to ppl all over new england area.
But we have hardly been able to get a convincing number of ppl to attend the rally.
Have you watched the bus thread for New England Area. 26 votes, can you believe that.
We definitely need to get more innovative. I dont know what ppl want, so they can be motivated.
Sometimes i think being educated is a curse, as ppl become more scared and are fine adapting to the system.
Look at the ILLEGALS at least they came out openly. They dared to come forward and i am sure they will be rewarded sooner.
LEGAL ppl who have nothing to fear are then also they are more scared to do anything. So this is the right time for me to express my opinion LEGALS ARE FOOLS.
Please dont be mad at me, i am just frustuated with ppl responses, but one thing for sure, i will keep on motivating ppl in whichever way i can do.
I have an idea how abt asking the hispanic community to be a part of this rally, they would definitively oblige more easily than our own i guess"" just kidding:)

Hello myvoice23 ---
How come your case is assigned to IO inspite of pending NC. I saw a post which said that NC should be cleared before 485 approval. They are planning to finish NC by Feb, 09; for all applicants whose NC is pending for than 6 months.
I am stuck with NC...my PD is 09/2004...

As everyone knows that AOS for those who already in US and CP is for those who are outside US (theoretically). It is a personal choice for a person in US to file either 485 or opt for CP. The reason for CP was a popular choice due to 485 processing delay between 2001 and 2005. Between 2001 and 2004 all EB categories were current for all countries. No one heard of term retrogression in that period. No one was worried about EB2 or EB3. However due to severe processing delay (partially due to increased security check due to 911) in 485 applications during that period, it was taking about 2 years for 485 approvals. During those entire 2 year period visa numbers were current and did not fluctuate as it is happening now. Therefore people opted to go for CP, as US consulates in abroad were not busy. They scheduled the interview right away as PD was current for all categories, during that 5 year period. Thats why CP was popular choice that period. Now, in the retrogression climate and continuous fluctuation in PD (back and forth movement), opting CP is a blunder mistake. Furthermore, now (at least before July 2007 fiasco) 485 approvals are so fast. If PD was current, USCIS was approving 485 with in 2 months before July 07. Therefore one should not even think about CP, if already in US unless if you are in EB1 or EB2-ROW category. Therefore 485 is the only option available to enjoy subsidiary benefits like EAD/AP/AC21. If any one already filed CP, to switch back to AOS they must wait till visa number available to their PD again. It will be a long road, and it complicates. As already mentioned, there is no technical ground to award EAD/AP for CP persons if already in US. If IV goes and talk to USCIS, they will laugh. To achieve same result, one can lobby for administrative fix like awarding EAD/AP for a person whose 140 was approved and legally present in the US in a valid non-immigrant status. This may be possible.
