We have 29 contributors + anurakt's challenge
There may be others that paid and did not post,
some members have been doing that
Good progress- the drought for contributions to iv is hopefully over,
but we are not there yet. We need EVERY active member to contribute at least $20, remember there are not that many active people here.
It's very encouraging to see that some of the contributions are from recent members. Maybe pappu can let us know at some point how much this campaign has collected so far.
If you are reading this and still watching from the sidelines: please join us. Contribute and add members. IF we are ALL involved, success will come. it's just a matter of time and patience.

The collection so far shows 33.33% of the $60K target as of December 11th.
Friends I pledge a $500 donation as soon as the figures reaches 500 less than halfway ... i.e $29,500 and another again once the figure reaches 500 less of $60,000 i.e $59,500. Pappu or any of the core member please let me know once we touch this figures BY 31ST DECEMBER. Till then keep the marathon going.

My PD is 4/30/04 and I am anxiously waiting as well (since 2001 actually).
This is not an accusation on Fred in any way, but I just noticed that his Notice Date is 10/3/07, when the current processing dates for TSC are 8/23/07 - so this is yet another mystery of USCIS/TSC, one I doubt we will be able to solve anytime soon.

Yes; he was out of status from March 2003. However; he had a valid I-94 card until February 2004. He didn't have a valid I-94 from February 2004 until april 2004.

-- Grass root & state level efforts work only when there are a lot of grass root workers. For example independence struggle in india worked due to grass root efforts. But please try to understand that things are different here --- by definition, we are immigrants, our numbers are limited in this country.
Okay. Its obvious that we need more participation from members for higher rate of success for IV campaigns.
Simply put, groups working in isolated corners of the country are having no effect on the politicians, because each area has only a few people and the politicians are not seeing the combined effect.
"Grass root efforts" may sound very trendy, but are actually leading us no where............yes we need it......but at the same time IV has to have a strong leadership who can show their strenght by doing phone / lettere campaigns.
Actually I disagree with you on two fronts. Even with low member participation, whatever success IV had is to a large measure due to the member participation. Second point is your post seem to suggest, I might have misread your statement, that just the IV leadership alone can make the phone/letter campaign a success. How? I am not privy to IV core information but I would doubt that just the IV core calling and writing letters would persuade the folks in DC to change their position.
My take is that the IV core can help come up with focused action items, and its by increasing grass roots effort that we can achieve the IV goals. ya, lets step-up a poll and have everyone vote, as if this is the US congress. And after voting leave it for someone else to work on this and other "brilliant" idea. There needs to be a reality check. This poll doesn't mean anything unless there are enough people to spend time and energy at every level. But ya, lets setup a poll and have everyone vote, it will give everyone a feel good factor that everyone contributed in the advocacy effort, how? by voting in the pool and not doing anything about how everyone votes.

I have a problem where my "Given Name" is entered as "<first name> <last name>" in my passport (India). The "Surname" is left blank. I have been in the US for 7 years now and it has never been a problem so far. I usually enter the "<last name>" in the last name column on all documents. I wonder if this will cause problems during the I485 name check stage. Any one here who can throw some light on this issue?

I had the same issue and I got it changed from Indian consulate NY. The whole process took around a week. You need to advertise in local newspapers which is not a big deal. Around Rs 200 in indian newpaper and $70 in US newspaper (Classified section).

Let us say that i agree to what ever you say. In what way does everything you stated above make a STEM graduate eligible for GC without an Employer sponsership. Why does it have to be only STEM graduates which will not need employer sponsership. If giving GC based on completion of MS in us is bypassing the employee sponserhsip then that has to be extended to all EB categories of immigrants (EB1/EB2/EB3) and the benefit o those visas have to be passed to the badly retrogressed category first.
Yes, the provision would apply across all EB classes. And if its quota exempted, then it does not matter as every eligible candidate gets his/her turn.
It si not teh question of liek or unliking or having jealousy. It is the question of law. According to the US law employee sponsership is EB category so any new bill which has to be introduced will have to follow the EB category employee sponsership rule, othwer wise it wil not see the light of the day.
