Bailouts from Arabian princes & Chinese govt. didnt do much squat to push the economy. A few immigrants buying houses (which again is gonna be tough to get loans approved in the 1st place) is gonna do much less good.
The US economy needs a deep cleanse. Which means all the bad news has to come out once & for all. No more Congress sanctioned hush ups for irregularities at Fannie Mae etc etc.

This is still not a big deal.
Firstly, the lesson learned from this is, dont show your H1 to the officer at counter if that H1 is expired and you are entering on AP. The officer doesnt care what your history is and how many beautiful H1s you had in past that are now expired. If you are entering into US using advanced parole, then show advanced parole. What is the point of showing an expired H1 stamp?
Secondly, as far as JFK is concerned, that airport seems to have procedure that all AP holders are processed in back office (secondary inspection office) and not processed at the counter. In my case, as soon as the officer saw an AP, (that first thing I showed him even before passport and the I-94 filled out), he said "oh parole ... let me grab that and walk down that room", he put all things (parole, I-94, passport) into a plastic bag and took me to a back office. There, another employee entered AP info in the system, stamped the AP and gave it back to me. It did take about 10-15 minutes for them. But they didnt ask any questions.
So, try to make it simple for employees at POE by showing them the authorization for re-entry - WHICHEVER it is. If you are re-entering on H1, then show them h1 stamp that is valid. Dont show AP. If you are re-entering on AP, then show them AP and TELL THEM you are entering on AP, rather than flashing an expired H1 stamp.
Thirdly, this isnt a nightmare, the guy was processed in downtown office, and took a few extra hours. Big deal. Yes, its a hassle, but one must act professionally rather than throwing tantrums like "let me in or let me go back to my home country". That's NOT how government operates, definately not at that level. There are procedures in place. Emotions and rhetorical outbursts are not going to sway the decision. If you have the right authorization to re-enter, then you will be let back in, there is no other alternative. If you dont, then no amount of rhetoric and outburst is going to save you. The decision is driven by paperwork and not by the impression you create on them. The impression matters when you are getting visa for first time in US consulate. But at POE, its more procedural and there isnt that much discretion and leeway to deport people back.
If you want to throw tantrums and use rhetoric, then there are plenty of places to do that, and I'd suggest you start with your congressman and senator's office. Go there and tell them that let's end the probationaly shackles on skilled immigrants and regularize them in American mainstream OR if they are bad for america, then send them all back. That's where the rhetoric and emotional tantrums might work. They wont work at POE at airports or in USCIS offices.
Calm down people, use AP freely and peacefully and also EAD. AP is not just used by us, it is also used by family and marriage immigration cases. Many people get engaged, come here, then get married and then file for green card based on marriage to citizen. Even they use AP. In fact, they have no other choice except AP for re-entry as they dont have H1 or L1 alternatives.

If u guys are staying in an apt make sure u have both urs and ur wifes names on the letter box, since the EAD comes with a return service requested seal on it, if ur wifes name does not show up on the letter box there are chances that it would be returned to USCIS. this happened to me.

Maybe if we can repeat the flower campaign, and send the flowers with a note attached to the DoJ, they might get to notice it. Or, we can send the flowers to the president to appraise him of the issues that face us. What we do need to stress is the fact that dependents are being allocated immigrant visas that actually belong to the employed applicants, thereby creating a larger backlog. In effect, rather than 140K visas being issued to employed applicants, about 70K are being issued and the rest going to dependents. any thoughts?

You have 2 choices:
1. If your PD is before 2003 they it may become current in Oct and you can file for her, but if not then it is highly unlikely the dates will move in the next several years. If you both are not born in India/China ur chances are better.
2. She continues on her H1 and wait till your priority dates become current which can take upto 7 years.
This is a very bad situation i would highly recommend that you move heaven and earth together to get married and file this month. Pardon me for saying so but ur stars are alligned till Aug 16th only. Good Luck!

Well, I like you because you are just a straight shooter. If you are such a straight shooter then let me do some straight talk, so just catch this.
Your American mid-size company or Desi small size or super size company will get $180/hr but you will not get even $50/hr from the same client even when you go direct. So no matter how "highly-skilled" you think you are, your non-compete argument is not good enough for you not to be able directly market yourself, because there are gazillion other companies using BI, Cognos, BO, Informatica, Datastage and every similar crap. You can impress a few people by naming some technologies that maybe hot but they don't mean a &hit if you market them yourself. Here is why. A lot of people blame the lack of GC as a reason to be exploited. That is part of the problem. The other part of the problem is that most hiring managers in large companies get commission from these small, mid-size or large American, Desi or European consulting companies. That's why in most cases they always hire through one of these companies. They will not hire directly because the manager thinks you to be a stingy desi, and if he hires you directly the hiring manager will not see a dime, so why will he hire you directly? This is a big cycle of corruption and everybody is part of it including lawmakers who get contributions from lobbyist/representatives of these small, mid and large size companies. You think lawmakers don't know what is going on? You think client doesn't know that you make 85K when the middle company get $180/hr? You think the big-bosses at the company/client doesn't know that the hiring managers are getting favors from middle companies? You think lawmakers doesn't know that immigrant worker waiting for long delayed GC is bonded to an employer that buys employee retention insurance policy for the employer? They all know it. But you see every player in this movie, you, your hiring boss at the client site, the middle company, the lobbyist, the lawmaker and many more, they are all being paid from that $180/hr which you think that you are entitled for because you know Oracle BI and Congnos. Do you realize how easy this ETL, Informatica bull &hit is but somehow you seem to think that its worth $180/hr. And you seem to think that your problem is that other than you, everybody else around you is faking resumes. If you are so smart answer this, how will you avoid using two bitmap index on two columns in two tables when used in the same query? And why would you want to avoid using both the bitmap indexes? Hello Guys,
I need your advice here. Six month ago i joined one of the many blood suckers -Desi cosulting company in new jersey. As you all know, they ask me to sign their contract in which its mention that if i leave their company before 1 year then i need to pay them 15k. Thy also charge me 3k for my H1-B which i am still paying everymonth from my paycheck and we have 70/30. In just six months i am so much fed up with them. These people are so rude...always show their arrogance over phone. I have no libarity to find job by myself. They always looking for higher pay rate sp that their big money tummy get filled up.and i also feel that they didnt told me the right pay rate for the project i am working on right now.
I really want to leave them, Even before 12 months. Is there any importance of that contract letter i signed with them?. Can they Sue me? What are my options? Please suggest me.....i am in stress.

If you are unhappy with this employer, you always have a choice of finding a different one, but there is no guarantee that the other one is also not a blood sucker. This situation will continue until you depend on the consulting companies (especially DESI) for your H1B and GC needs.
The best option is to find a full time job with a reputed company and stick with them until your GC is completed or until you get to the point where you can use AC21, nowadays lot of companies are processing H1. Check the visa database to find the information regarding the employer you are interested in.
Don�t just choose the employer based on the attracting benefits they offer. Conducting some due diligence will land you at the right company.
BTW, what do you mean by �you have no liberty to find a job�? All you need is internet and a phone to talk to people.
Lot of people including myself has been through this nightmare, believe me it�s not so difficult.

As I understand it correctly, you have a very personal reason for not getting married before Sept 07. I have to say that in that case, go ahead and at least file for your green card, that way you create one more option of applying through family based, even if it means 6-7 years of waiting period. Ideally you would like her to come to states at least for 2-3 business days to get court marriage and filing of docs, but if thats not the case then this is your best option.

I am planning to file EAD/AP for my wife who is on H4 along with adjustment of status application. Will she continue on her H4 status till she gets EAD/AP?
She will continue on H4 status until she uses EAD (by filing I-9 with an employer when she starts working). At that point, her H4 is automatically invalid and she is then on EAD. Until then she can be on H4. Same rule applies to H1.

It was Roy's third trip to the national spelling bee, and she had credited her past experience with keeping her calm and relaxed heading into the finals. She tied for 12th place in 2009 and 20th place in 2010.
Roy speaks Bengali and every summer travels to India to visit family. She hopes to pursue a career in international relations.
Roy is the ninth Indian-American in the last 13 years, a run that began when Nupur Lala captured the crown in 1999 and was later featured in the documentary "Spellbound."
The winner will be awarded a $30,000 cash prize, a trophy, a $2,500 US savings bond, a complete reference library, a $5,000 scholarship and $2,600 in reference works and other prizes.
Anamika Veeramani had scored a hat-trick for Indian-Americans in taking the crown last year.
Roy was one of the six Indian Americans - Sriram Hathwar, Arvind Mahankali, Prakash Mishra, Mashad Arora, and Dhivya Senthil Murugan - who made it to the last 13 in the finals.
The youngest finalist was 10-year-old Dhivya Murugan of Denver, who was born in India.
The spelling bee kids just keep getting better and better. Even words like chlorthalidone," "dreikanter," "renminbi" and "helichrysum" couldn't sufficiently narrow down the field in the semifinals, which needed 95 minutes of overtime earlier Thursday to whittle the competitors from 41 to 13.
The week began with 275 spellers. A written test Tuesday and two oral rounds Wednesday reduced the field for the semifinals.
According to the Scripps Spelling Bee's website, this year brought contenders ranging in age from 8 to 15 years old from all over the world.

This is called waste of brain power ... cramming as much as you can from the dictionary and god knows what. It would have been much better if a child learns some skill or diverts the mind towards exploring a problem or invention . What use is cramming the dictionary when it is available right on your phone now . If you have the internet all the world's knowledge is searchable.
There are much better uses for the brain power.

Proves that we indian rock in whatever we decide to do in life and that can be medicine/IT/Law/ working to do some invention / spelling or whatever. People can have different intrests in life but matter of fact stays same that we indians are one of the most hard working race.
