Backlit keyboard. It wouldn't be so much of a big deal if they didn't have it to begin with, then they removed that option. If they bring it back, I'll get rid of my MBP and go back to an Air.

Let me just say, that as complacent as Canadian's appear, **** with our Universal Health Care, and there will be rioting (Edit: tasteful demonstrations) in the streets.

????????? doesn't make much sense, sure that is what he said? kyo ha pasokon desu? hmmm...

I agree with you. Even though ??? can be read as Konnichiwa. In most cases it will be read as Kyouwa. Usually Konnichiwa is written in Hiragana (?????). I am not saying it is not used but the Kanji usage is very rare and most Japanese will read it as Kyowa.
Linguistically the humor of the first commercial "Work vs Mac" is very Japanese. It is too the point where even as a consultant in East Asian cultures I had to watch it several times till I really got the joke. Still cannot laugh. My wife (Japanese) said it was not funny and must have been written by a Kanto comedian. If a Kansai comedian had written it, it would have been funnier.

When I learned film photography in the '70s, we were not allowed to use our SLR cameras. The college provided 4x5 view cameras. That put all of us on the same level for the first year. By the time I was finishing up my senior work using my Nikon the school had beginning students building pin hole cameras. This helped a lot. When I showed up for my first classes, some of the other students had Hasselbad cameras. Forgetting about gear forced us to think about the frame and what was going on in there.

Most years I teach at 2nd year composition course, at a small commercial photography college. I grew up with film, and while I love how digital has freed me from some of the boundaries of film (endless undo!) I still think, mostly, like a film shooter.
The college allows the students to use whatever equipment they own. The wet darkroom was removed a couple of years ago, but in that last year we had an interesting student who used the darkroom. First day of my class, the there were mostly Nikons and Canons in the room, but David arrived with his homemade pinhole camera. He was determined to try and do as many of my assignments as possible with it as a challenge (and I accommodated his equipment when I could). And when he wasn't shooting the pinhole he was shooting a Hasselblad Xpan (the 35mm panoramic camera). Again, just so he could a challenge working in that aspect ratio.
He was a very good photographer, and he did really well in my class. But he didn't care about the marks (I think that's another sign of "How to Work Hard, But Still Suck" - spend all your time taking classes. And trying to get good marks.) He just wanted to absorb information, could afford the course, and was going to go and do his own thing as soon as a photojournalist as soon as he could. School was just a way to get up the learning curve quickly.
I forget why I started this post now, but soon as remember his last name I'm going to Google him and get caught up.
I think I was going to say that I've noticed that today's photo students like to 'assemble' their images in PS. We (the faculty) keep telling them that it's still easier to spend the extra few minutes at the time of shooting to fix that thing, than to try to 'Shop it out later. Or to add that extra fill light than to go back and reshoot the assignment because they can't fix it at all later.
Sigh.
I sound like an old fart.

Canada was well aware of who they were voting for. It's not like the conservatives are a new party gaining power. Harper has been there for a while.
I'm sorry, but no they weren't. People have very short memories and they forgot that the Conservatives really have a much more extreme right view on things. All they remember is what has been going on during these minority Conservative governments, which was a very muted version of what the Conservatives are all about/aboot. You weren't living in Canada prior to their first minority government (IIRC, you moved there sometime last year), so I don't really think you can have a true feel for what was going on back then. Reading stuff online now doesn't really give you a sense for what was up back then either. I was living there during that time, and I remember.
The Conservatives decided to tone down their platform in order to gain power. This was their strategy (and IMO, not a very honest one). They maintained that toned down platform during their minority governments because they knew full well that if they attempted to make and major policy changes, the government would fall. They were very patient, and they were waiting for this: a majority government so that they could do what they want.
All the small businesses I know in my area voted conservative because they knew the liberals and NDP were going to attempt gutting them.
All of the small businesses? Every single one? Did you go around and poll them? Did they all mark their door-frames in blood or something? Surely some (or even one) of them voted Liberal/PC/NDP/Green. Toronto isn't much of a Conservative stronghold.......

Red= Liberal

Why would you say that unless you're trying to get people stirred up? They all appear to be drinking water (which seems odd and rather sobering)!

Nah, if they need to go past 10.7.9, they can go for 10.7.10, 10.7.11 .. 10.7.93 or whatever.
The numbering scheme just looks like it's base 10. It ain't.
You know, I often see this posted on the forums, yet I can't think of any example in the past that proves it. Every version after a .9 that I know of has been the last of that series.

What do you use to monitor the temps? I haven't found anything that works yet.
What problems *do* these EFI and SMC updates fix, exactly? BTW, according to the SMC update description, it will update it to 1.7f8, while according to System Profiler I already have that version. Must apply to to the first batch of models only?
Edit: firmware update successfully applied, no SMC update in SWU for me.
i use Temperature Monitor.
it monitors each core temp, and the hard drive temps only (same for my macbook pro)

Ok, I was going to post something with substance, but I can't stop laughing...
And what's with this rhetoric? "overthrow"? Really? And you do realize you just Goodwin-ed this discussion...
If that didn't, I'm pretty sure this did -->
Fascists show no mercy to ANYONE.. Tea Party = the new modern NAZI PARTY.
By the way, what's so controversial about NPR and PBS?
(edit) Considering Planned Parenthood uses ZERO federal funds to provide abortions, what is so controversial about a womens' health provider, birth control, and an entity that helps with education and treatment regarding sexually transmitted diseases?

Not half as sad as the machine of mediocrity that is Simon Bloody Cowell's monopoly on our christmas number ones.
So the frig what if a bunch of people want to feel like they've accomplished a small victory by bumping that rubbish off the top spot? It's harmless fun.

Don't think I fit in either camp - buy clothes at tesco, happily eat tuna or smoked salmon (so not a vegetarian, and prefer sirloin steak anyway), like red wine, drink irn bru, single malt, don't like hummos and don't care where films are made as long as they are good. And don't ride a Harley or a scooter, but would like a Triumph.

I read somewhere awhile back that this same technology was in passports and and licenses and was very easy to read the information and hack in to the chip with some sort of device you can purchase or make from your local radio shack like a frequency scan tool like back in the old days with car alarms with code hopping technology! interesting video check out the whole vid the rfid part starts at 6:20sec. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuBo4E77ZXo

Kinda agree i could seem myself using a iPad over my MBP when i am not working, having that separation from programming is what appeals to me.
I want to work when i work and not have to think when i am just browsing the web, in reality the iPad covers all my computing needs when i am not programming.
Though it would be lovely to have Aperture on the iPad to cover my hobby needs but it would require some from of local wireless storage access as i don't think many 25MB images would fit on 64GB.
but people that have 25MB images and need Aperture at all wouldn't be considered "normal" either
