Right now for all bills that Zoe proposed there are max 19 co sponser for this last bill. DID you check for STRIVE ACT 2007 which had 78 co-sponsers still could not make it to floor.
We need to call these lawmakers and educated them on these bills.
Chances are less but our investment is not that big. Few minutes in a day to call or write.

Eb3I may nudge forward a little bit. Sadly that won't be very helpful to most folks on this board. Visa recapture is the only thing that can help near term. In the interim, administrative fixes, rule clarifications, USCIS efficiencies in application processings, Data transparency, though not glamorous victories as say visa recapture. Nonetheless make the path somewhat more comfortable and predictable.

The movement of EB2I will be quite revealing for me. If there is quarterly spillover(which under current rules should be the case) then we might see some forward movement or at the very minimum the dates should stay put. However if there is no quarterly spillover, then with the approvals in EB2 recently, they will be hard pressed not to move dates backward somewhat.

When we e-file EAD/AP, do we get the receipt number the same moment the app is fully submitted or the reciept # comes through the mail from USCIS?

You may admire them as much as you want but fact is these are just "glorified" bodyshoppers. I meet many workers from these "great" companies at my workplace and see them being treated just as "low cost alternatives" and nothing else by this huge financial company in NY/NJ area. Because of their (INFY, TATA, Wipro, Satyam) "low billing rates" these guys cant afford good lifestyle. And back home in India INFY and TATA CEOs make billions and talk BIG. I've not met any TATA, Satyam guy here who is happy with their employer. They just hate their employers and always looking for a change. I wonder where they stand in terms of employee satisfaction? They treat their people like slave and send them as low cost labor. Not only that - they exploit US immigration rules and make use of L1 to keep their people long term at cliant place when they dont get enough H1.

It will be at least 6 months to become proficient. Can you expect to hire locally and train for 6 months in this competition? Where will the project go? It is not cost effective to get people on L1B and get them do the 'actual' work. Most of us work here as coordinators or client contacts. Not for doing actual work. And in that context there is no rule that is being exploited.

So those guys who attended the hearings or met with senators. what was the result? what did they accomplished? did they get the opportunity to participate with the senator or law maker in an action plan? or we just wasted that opportunity asking for autographs? please those guys post your comments.

Don't be so dumb and also claim that you are high skilled, they don't go together. Yes, we did get our autographs and we have the right to flaunt for what we did at DC. Based on what Zoe Lofgren said in the video interview it is clear that no piece meal changes will be entertained. Courtesy of the media (read: Lou Dobbs) and the hispanic representation in the Congress/Senate any legal immigration effort is held at gun-point. In my opinion all changes will be rolled up into CIR, which may pass as late as 2010. Be it Obama or McCain, they have bigger issues to address before worrrying about immigration and that to legal immigration. Both have to live up to poll promises and immigration reform features only as a lip-service when both speak on the campaign trail. Bringing the troops home, addressing issues with economy, and solving the energy needs will be prioririty number one for the new President.
I spent considerable time reading the last CIR proposal and it was clearly in favor of illegal immigrants. Restrictions on hiring legal immigrants and choking their talent featured at the top of the "to do" list for legal immigrants like us. I dont see much change in the next CIR. Few changes here or there but the word "Comprehensive" in CIR is reserved for illegals.
Who is to blame? In my opinion, US. Not U.S but us (we the people). On one hand you observe legal hispanic immigrants and business fighting for the cause of their community and on the other we conveniently forget our community as soon as we adopt this alien land. I live in the Bay Area and boy have I seen the marathi mandals, kannada sanghas, TANA, AATA, BATA and God knows how may orgranizations that represent our fractured presence in this country. We have shamelessly displayed our differences based on cultural backgrounds/needs. Sardar Patel's dream of "Ek akhand bharat" (one united India) seems to reverberate only when India plays Pakistan in a game of cricket. I wonder if people such as Vinod Khosla, Vinod Dham, Arun Netravali, Indra Nooyi understand or are are atleast cognizant of the issues their community is facing. For a wild second, imagine the above four making a few phone calls. I bet the impact will be huge.

Immigrationvoice is a great organization and I will not take away anything from it. That said, collecting a few hundred thousand, making phone calls, and sending flowers is going to do jack-shit. We need representation on the corridors of power. That's where the battle is.
Finally anybody who calls the D.C rally a success needs to go easy on the weed. I was there and I can tell you, it was pathetic. Compare that to the L.A rally by the hispanic community. We can give a million explanations on why the D.C rally was under-represented. The bottomline my friends is that the L.A illegal rally got more coverage on CNN and the media, which clearly translated into a biased CIR.

I guess most of the folks here are busy preparing to apply for 485. I have different problem here.
My employer's attorney is charging me outrageous fees of around $5000 to
apply for 485, AP and EAD for me and my spouse. This excludes USCIS fees. I work on hourly basis, so I should be taking care of immigration fees. My employer is not allowing me to file through another law firm.
Do I have any other options. How much do they charge usually.
Get a approval notice for I-140 and file I-485 urself, if I-140 not approved then get the receipt number and file urself

Ok what i have heard after calling Lufthansa is because of the new Schezewan (I knmow i spelled it worng) visa changes AP is no longer considered a valid visa document by Germany. It used to before but no longer and of course France, England and other countres never did. So coming back to Germany yes while travelling to and fro you need a transit visa (Direction does not make any difference because as far as Germany is concerned you are from India and you have no Valid visa to America and/or any european country so you are suspect of trying to illegally enter Germany and to avioid it you need to buy transit visa).
I myself was plannig for a trip and was trying for travle via Doha and Qatar where no transit visa is required. (Us to gluf direct flight. Gulf to any city in india) but the rates were high. If you like you can look at that opiton too. beats the hell out of going to teh german embassy and getting a transit visa. But if that is your preference go with it

My advice is to take a new job, leave the current employer on good terms and forget about AC21.
One more question, If we opt for AC21, can the previous employer revoke I140 (After 180 days) ? will that impact I485 ?

Has anybody heard the story of the canadian skater who was allowed to become a citizen in an expedited manner (she had one more year to go before meeting the 5 year criterion for eligibility after GC) just before the olympics. Actually, I think she won a silver medal at the olympics for the USA.
Anyway, from what I hear, she had gotten her GC in 2002 and had been living and training in Detroit with her american skating partner. When she decided to participate as an american, but was not elibible to apply for citizenship until 2007. So, she contacted a lobbyist to help her with her case. The lobbyist was able to convince a michigan senator (not sure who this is) to help. The story is that the senator was able to include a measure in the bill signed by the President in Dec to make it legal for people in the situation such as the skater to apply for citizenship even when the 5 year period is not complete. The measure got passed when the president signed the dec bills.
So, they filled her application, got the immigration services folks in Detroit to come out during the chrstmas holidays specifically for her, and got her the citizenship in time for her to get her passport for the games.
So, my point is...if it is legal for the lobbyist to help her (a non-citizen) with her immigration case and it was legal for the senator to introduce the measure, why would it be deemed illegal to do what we are attemting with our lobby firm and our efforts to meet and talk to the senators and congress people?

Have they mentioned it on their website? Usually DMVs like CT etc.. mention on website that they need a Employment verification letter, as a matter of fact, they don't even accept paystubs they just want employment verification letter.
Folks - my advice is : Please do not argue with the department. Ask them to post their new requirement on their website so that you don't go there and get disappointed.

Negative testimony can be used by some to harp on issues or get some leverage. However let the truth be there. Not everyone will be happy with legal immigration reform. But in the end, support for these reform is good from business and the immigrants and they are the ones impacted. So I dont think whether republicans or democrats they will politicize the issue. CHC caucus members may considering its sour grapes for them.
