After the September session, Congress will convene again in November/December timeframe for a short session. If the bill does not get passed then, then come next January, it will be starting the process all over again as it will be a new year for the Congress. Just like green cards, Congress does not carry over bills from one year to the next.

I have come across at least one-colleague in every client place who left U.S.A - after being here for more than 7 years. And they do have children, houses and handsome salaries. And I know of number of people who have plans to eventually go back. But it's just matter of time and money. If property prices were not crazy in India, I am sure more people would have left by now.

Just wondering how we can make this a paid site which works and where everyone wins. Here are some thoughts in the wee hours:
0) Read for Free
1) Monthly paid subscription (recurring contributors):
a) can post without restriction.
b) get important updates
2) If you don't have a monthly contribution -
a) Your first 5 posts are free
b) After that you can buy "points" to post on IV (say minimum chunk of 25 points for $50 bucks).
To post a message, it costs you a point. If you have a question, then a couple of bucks is a small amount to have your questions answered. However, without incentive people will not answer questions (because it would also cost to post responses/experiences). So, lets say I post a response to your question, then if you (or any member who posted before me) thinks that my response was useful, and adds value to that thread, can give me a "+" which adds to my chunk of points.
This way, only people who have serious queries will post their questions, and those who are confident about their answers will post a response. It will reduce noise on the website and will become a better resource of information. Unfortunately a lot of good stuff gets lost between people venting their frustration and providing incorrect advice.
Ofcourse, we can make certain threads free to post - such as the funding drive, media drive, state chapters etc.
If you really really want lots of responses to your questions, you could also sponsor a thread - say $25 bucks where anybody can post a response for free, for a limited time.

No one knows for sure what the final rule is likely to be. Chances are anyone who doesn't have approved petition may be rejected once substitution is cancelled.
People sometimes don't want to believe bad news.. and this is what is going on with some desi employers and immigration lawyers..
but all signs are it's gonna happen and very soon.. maybe March 1st. I myself struggled and decided against someone who offered me in past 1 month.

Thanks for your time and effort. But I believe your time could be utilized for other better causes than monitoring the comments made by the users by using the anonymous green/red dot system.
This internet forum is already anonymous for all the posts being made. Thjere is no way someone can tie a userid to an individual. Then why a separate dotting system that ends up eating your time when someone complains?
Someone's red dot feedback is only his/her opinion of the post; the same post could result in someone else's approval via a green dot.
Just let that feedback hang out there in the open along with the reviewer's ID.
Hopefully, by keeping it in the open, it will also make one to be more responsible in their choice of language while providing feedback.
This may not be a simple change of a switch/flag. But please consider it for the future enhancements of the site.

you have a PD only if you are in a pool that has a restriction on the number of GCs that can be issued in one year. if you are exempt, basically you don't have a PD. That is, it is always current. You do wait for them to finish processing your I-485 for which there will always be a processing date, which may or may not be current for you.
Also, please don't give any such ideas to USCIS; they may like this particular idea :D

Yes, there are sub-limits in ICICI for persons above the age of 55 years. Please look at the policy wording, a 16 page document. Look at Page 3 in a section called 'Special Conditions'. It is mentioned there.

New way of steady income by means of donations to IV...a new avenue would be ideal.
If we are to loose any of the efforts that pappu has mentioned in the agenda....just for the lack of money...That would be painful

If the hosts dont even use 'controversial' to describe him it's pointless trying to call in - its going to be an 'immigrant hate-fest' whether you call in or not and you are not going to win hearts or change minds. I remember 4 or 5 years ago he was raging against the H1 on air as usual and turned around to his staff and asked if CNN too was using the H1program - and the answer unsurprisingly was 'yes'. He has no sense of shame or a modicum of decency - none of his staff members either. In case If I wanted to have my attorney, I need to cough up $275/hr and 5K check upfront and he feels his fee may add upto 10K by the end of all this. So not sure whether just go with insurance agent's attorney for the time being and just wait how it goes, even if the case goes against me as I don't have much bank balance etc I am not sure what they can get out of me..

If I were in your place, I would not spend money to hire my own attorney- not yet. I would let the insurance attorney handle the initial few months, and only after things start happening, I'd think about paying an attorney myself. Meanwhile, use this interim period to look for a very good attorney- meet with a couple of them and decide which one would you choose, if you had to. Personal liability defense is handled best by firms specialized in tort defense (eg. who defend medical malpractise suits), and NOT by trial lawyers who are mostly experienced with plaintiff's cases.
Another thing, since YOU were the one who seems to have experienced most injuries in the accident, didn't you get letters from trial lawyers offering to sue the other folks and ask for damages (since THEY were at least 20% responsible for your injuries)? Such trial lawyers do not take any money from you upfront- they only take a % of the money recovered. This might make things too messy for you to handle- but give it a thought; sometimes offense is the best defence.
Some folks have advised you to move money etc out of this country- but remember this can backfire. Any financial transaction you do now, will be heavily scrutinized if there is a trial and will be treated as fraud if they are seen as attempts to hide money. This will bring in additional charges and the court will order for reversal of all these transactions. So tread carefully, my friend.
