Exactly what happens when thousands of people contact senators instead of one fax from one organization with one point of contact just so that if some one actually calls back from the senator’s office we at least have some one who could explain the situation in a way that makes sense?
There is another side to that coin, Senators will not be swayed on an issue unless it directly affects a constituent of theirs. AILA has fax and mail campaigns and so do anti-immigrant organizations such as NumbersUSA who according to their organization last week in only 3 days claim to have sent 120K faxes! IMHO one fax will not cut it, a hard copy letter with every single member's name signed to it would be great but picture the logistics with only 2 days to act. I again refer to AILA, AILA has sent letters (see my earlier post referring to the links) but also urges the public and pro-immigrant groups to contact congress enmasse with content that they provide. As for the person who couldn't articulate the issues, that is indeed unfortunate as one in a worst case scenario can always give their personal story, be it retrogression, BECs, H1 cap, H4 inability to work etc etc or if they need to gather their talking points request an appointment to discuss the issue.

Does any of you know what rights for maternity leave has a pregnant H1B visa holder? I want to stay home next year for 3 months to take care of my baby, then start working again.
From what I know I can only have the 6 weeks of short term disability.
The Maternity Act does not apply in my case because the company I'm working for has under 50 employees.
I asked my lawyer if I can take any unpaid leave without loosing my H1B status and her answer was that I can change my visa to H4 or become a part time employee for a while. I do not like any of this options because I'm in my I140 stage with my green card and I do not want to lose it at this stage, after waiting for years to get my labor cert approval.
Your answer would be appreciated.

Which service center? Guys, is this the normal trend? I guess the processing times webpage is showing ~ 3 months.
It looks like not many people are applying for AP renewals, this is simply my observation based on traffic on this topic in IV.
Nebraska Service Center (paper filing). Applied on March 12 and received approval May 10th.

In which case, USCIS can revoke an approved I-140 without any notice on the basis of fraud, which would automatically lead to your I-485 denial. I-140 online status may or may not change in such cases. Your case being in extended review is raising some flags. Do you know anything about the kind of extended review that was going on. Your lawyer on file, as well as you should get a copy of the notice. Make sure no communication was sent to the lawyer from Company A. Sometimes USCIS does not update the lawyer information even though a new G-28 is submitted. You will have to just wait for the denial notice. I hope it does some good to you and makes your PD current/closer so that you dont eat/sleep/drink VB. C mon man... There are other things you can do. Dont get offended by what I am saying. If your PD is closer, I can understand your excitement. But a lot of people are just killing time in forums by working their ass off on predictions and call it comic relief. I came to US on h4 i applied for H1-B Visa.again I would like convert to H4 Visa.
My H4-visa stamped until 09/30/2007

The Employment Based Immigration section explains how they will make a task force to prevent illegal workers from being exploited. I don't see anything for legal EB workers other than this 5 year thing which will start counting after this law is passed. :mad:
It says 5 years preceding from the date this law is enacted. Does this not mean that they will look 5 years back from the date this law is enacted?
Also i do not see them say it is for illegals only...
I do not think they would make it easier for illegals than legal residents.
I am not very optimistic about this . But i would definately like to see this pass.

In trying to play the "devil's advocate", you still did not answer my question. i.e. "Let me ask you a simple question. What CAN be the "perceived benefit" from a rally like this that would make you think that it would be worth attending? Is it something like a guarantee for a GC in 2 months or a bill that passes next month that does everything we legals want? What is it?"

My first reaction. You're kidding, right! Ever worked in marketing/sales?? When you go to sell your product or service, you try to sell it from the point of view of the customer. In this case, what the benefit can be from the point of view of the US govt and US economy. Yes, our primary aim is to get our GC's in a reasonable time frame. The slogans and messages are in support of these ( By the way both happen to be true).
Incidentally, even the spark in Gandhi was ignited when he personally was insulted and thrown from a train. My point being that it is only when we personally are affected by an issue that we react to it. The reaction ofcourse differs based on our own individual character, personality and other traits.

Another take - if US can have an endless source of temporary workers coming in, paying into income tax and social security taxes and medicare taxes for a few years......and going back without claiming a single dime of social benefits......its the best possible situation for US....a forever young, qualified, minimum wages (i.e prevailing wages) earning tax paying transient population supporting/ subsidizing an archaic and otherwise struggling social security and healthcare system.

just to take the "popular" Gandhian analogy a step further......There was Home Rule League and Congress in existence in India for a long time.....their objective was to petition the British Govt for small changes........and their ultimate goal was to get dominion status for india......only when Gandhi came on board plus supporters of other proactive forms of protest.....like Subhash Bose.....Tilak etc and the armed freedom struggle started (Bhagat Singh, Azad et al)......did Congress wake up and ask for "purna swaraj" (complete independence).......so from 1885 (founding of congress) to 1930 (Lahore Session of Congress when purna swaraj declaration was made) - nothing happened......british empire went from strength to strength.......then in 17 years - India got independence.......
pl think about what i wrote objectively......and dont jump on me just because i am playing devil's advocate
